This is an instant rivalry due
to the fact that it is bringing about The Show’s first ever replay game. Air
Force led most of the way when the two teams first met, but after an RBF run
and a botched call by the officials the true outcome of the game is still in
question. The two teams will replay the end of the game and then compete in a
rematch immediately afterwards. With the playoffs looming and both teams so
close in record, this could shift the seeding drastically should one team
manage to pick up two wins in one day.
Long Beach Knights versus Do Work
The Long Beach Knights’
last game in the Downey League came over a year ago. Herb Brown and Carl
Montgomery fell short to Randy Winbush’s Much Game team in the semifinals of
the Downey playoffs. Incarnations of both teams have competed against each
other in three different cities now. Despite the Knights being one of the
better teams for years, Winbush’s teams seem to always outlast them, often
going deeper into the playoffs and collecting more championships. The Knights
will look to change things in Compton.
The Supers versus The Showstopperz
Possibly the most heated
rivalry in the league pits friends and family against one another. The Supers
are 4-2 all time against The Showstopperz, but the two losses were statement
gamesfrom the Showstopperz. One was in the playoffs and the other in a blowout.
The two teams know each other very well and aside from this season’s Week 1
blowout the games usually go down to the wire.
D.A.W.G.S. versus Mohicans
Brother versus brother, cousins
versus cousins. The D.A.W.G.S split from the Supers last season to form their
own squad. After a disappointing season, the D.A.W.G.S. split with the Mohicans
emerging as the new team. Thus far they are having very different seasons. The
Mohicans are winless, while D.A.W.G.S. are eyeing a playoff berth. But you can
throw records out the window, when they meet for the first time since their
split.
Terror Squad versus Street Legends
Terror Squad and Street
Legends have battled in Hawaiian Gardens, Downeyand Compton. Terror Squad has changed their
names but many of the players remain the same. In all Josh Santiago’s squad has
competed well against Mauricio Mejia’s Street Legends, but they were bested in
the Downey playoffs as the Street Legends made it to the Finals before losing
to Do Work. With stars from Downey’s two time Champion Untouchables team now on
the Street legends squad, the rivalry may have found new life.
