News Title:  The Show Player Spotlights

 Jason Mercer - Air Force
Jason Mercer is nice. If you don't know, watch the kid play. Some players are classified as shooters, athletes, defenders and so one, but the Air Force guard is all of the above. He shoots at a 61% clip including 38.5% from downtown. If you try to slow him down with physical play, be careful, he's a reliable 82% free throw shooter. On top of that, Mercer is an aggressive defender and a surprising athlete. His ability to get off a good shot in the mid range area has helped carry his Air Force squad to a 3-0 record, making Mercer an easy pick for the All Show Game.

How Do You Play Him? Stopping the kid might be a pipe dream, but slowing him down is possible. Put some length on him and force him to put the ball on the hardwood. He can handle the rock, but the idea is to limit easy shots. Closing out on his jump shots with length and forcing him to expend energy to score rather than pull up mid-range should help that objective.

Ross Hardwick - C'Mon Son
Ross Hardwick is like an artist on the court. Now, sometimes dude can get a little out of control with his paintbrush making plays and passes that cause on-lookers to question what exactly he was trying to do. But the guy understands that to create a masterpiece you have to take chances. He's got the ability to find an open teammate anywhere on the court, especially near the rim. His dribble and play in the paint is strong enough to draw a lot of attention, allowing him to make life easier for guys like James Perkins and Saul Lankston. It's no surprise he's leading the league in assists with about 7 each contest.

How Do You Play Him? Like Mercer, you want to guard Hardwick with length. You need someone who can try to deflect his outgoing passes and teammates who are disciplined enough to stay at home on their assignments, knowing when the ball is in Hardwick's hands, he's looking to pass first. Also, Ross tends to move faster than he may even be aware of. When he's on the move and leaves his feet, he's a charge waiting to happen if a defender is disciplined enough to hold their ground.

Devan Jones - Street Legends
Go DJ! The man is a high fly act. He can dunk in the open court, half court, on you, over you, around you and through you. On top of that, he's active on the boards and a quality defender. He averages a near double-double with 18 ppg and 9.5 rpg. He's also been working on his mid-range game, so don't be surprised when he steps out to 17 feet and knocks one down. His length allows him to play effective D on the wing or in the post and his quickness makes it hard to cover him with just any big. His play has yet to help the Street Legends to a victory, but it will get him into the All Show Game at this rate.

How Do You Play Him? DJ's athleticism is aided by great footwork, but his handles can slow him down a little. With that said, make him go left to slow his momentum. And despite his improved jumper, better to allow him to settle for a mid range shot then letting the cat get into the paint and rack up fouls on your post players.
